Shrikand Mahadev Yatra / Trek

Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra/ Trek is one of the toughest and most difficult Yatra / Trek in the world. The clusters of the beautiful valleys, ravine are always to accompany you while you make your way up to the peak of Shrikhand Mahadev. The yatra / trek makes its way through both the forests and the glaciers.
There are five base camps established by the administration / trust during yatra, these are Singhgad, Thacharu, Kunsha, Bhimdavari and Parvati Bag.

  1. Up to first base camp Singhgad :- To reach the first base camp Singhgad, one has to take turn from Shimla – Rampur Bsr. NH in place Duttnagar or Bajirbavli to Nirmand road and cross the Satluj towards Nirmand. On the way to Nirmand he/she can visit famous pilgrimages centre "Dev Dhank" , "Ambika mata Temple" and "Lord Parshu Ram Temple". Up to village Jaon one can reach through his/her own vehicle. From Jaon to Singhad there are around 3 KM onfoot way. There are enough guest houses in Nirmand & Jaon area. In first base camp Singhgad, there are enough availability by staying in home stay, tents etc.
  2. Singhgad to Thachru :- The yatra trek further up from Singhgad observes a sudden ascent up to Barathi Nalah. At this point two rivulets come together to form Kurpan Khad. Ahead of Barathi Nala there is again a sharp ascent to Thachru which is an elevators of around 11000 ft. This takes around 2 – 3 hours to reach. The total distance from Singhgad to Thachru is almost 12 KM.
  3. Thachru to Kunsha Next base camp after Thachru is Kunsha. This route is firstly steeper up to Kalighathi and them downwards up to Bhimatalai. After this a level zigzag up –down trek is there up to Kunsha. This destination Kunsha positioned at an altitude of around 12500 feet in place surrounded by beautiful waterfalls. This takes around 3 – 4 hours to reach. The distance from Thachru to Kunsha is almost 7 KM.
  4. Kunsha to Bheem Davar Next base camp after Kunsha is Bhim Davar. This trekking is extremely enjoyable. During this stretch as you will come across several cascading waterfalls and small hills through the undulating terrains. Bheem Dwar in the spot that acts as the resting ground for devotees. This takes around 2 – 3 hours to reach. The distance from Kunsha to Bheem Davar is almost 3.5 KM.
  5. Bheem Dawar to Parvati Bagh It is one of the most beautiful stretches you will come across. Parvati Bagh is a halting point before reaching the Shrikhand Mahadev peak. The distance from Bhimdwar to Parvati Bagh is around 3 KM and it takes almost 2 hours to reach there. It is believed that Goddess Parvati planted this garden. This garden has flowers like Brahma Kamal , which supposedly was used by the Hindu deity Shiva to plant an elephant’s head on Ganesha, the God of new beginnings. The Parvati Bagh is the last base camp.
  6. Parvati Bagh to Shrikhand Mahadev Peak from here the tough trek comes into the picture. There is no grassland beyond Parwati Bagh. The trek makes its way only through morainesand snow. On this way the Nain Sarovar is a lake situated at a high altitude of around 14500 feet and is about one and half hours from Parwati Bagh. Here you will cross a magnificent alpine lake created from the melting waters from the surroundings glaciers. After this is the final stretch through rocky terrains into the peak, where the lingam is situated. The slopes are steep and almost vertical with a few glaciers and a low oxygen level. This is the most difficult and challenging stretch in the entre trek route. Parwati Bagh to Shrikhand Mahadev is only a 6 – 7 KM stretch which takes more than 4 hours to reach.
